The Alpini Museum of Bassano del Grappa, located in the immediate vicinity of the famous Ponte degli Alpini, was inaugurated on October 1, 1950. The Monte Grappa Section of the National Alpini Association (ANA), under the leadership of then-President Maj. Bruno Solagna, strongly promoted the creation of this institution with the aim of establishing a space dedicated to the memory of the Alpini who participated in World War I. Over time, the collection has grown to include numerous artifacts, not only from the Great War, many of which were donated by families from Bassano. Inside the museum, numerous war relics and historical artifacts are preserved, including barbed wire, helmets, aerial bombs, shrapnel, and bayonets. These items mainly originate from the Asiago Plateau and Monte Grappa, collected through excavations and private donations. Additionally, the museum houses period photographs, manuscripts, letters, and other documents that illustrate life in the trenches and the sacrifices of the Alpini during various conflicts.
The museum represents an important cultural opportunity to retrace the history and values of the Alpini, offering visitors a window into the collective memory of the Great War. Its location, adjacent to the Ponte degli Alpini—an emblem of the city and a place cherished by the Alpini themselves—makes it a significant stop for those wishing to delve into local and national history.
